Abiding In Christ

By David J. Stewart | February 2009

1st Chronicles 16:11, “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.”

There is no secret to living the Christian life. It all boils down to seeking the Lord's face in our daily lives. The heathen world has turned religion into a chore, a formality, something that needs to be done to make God happy. The truth is that God vomits this kind of lukewarm religion out of His mouth. Revelation 3:15,16, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” There is nothing any more repulsive than prayer books and prayer recitals. God is not interested in our empty words.

The Bible doesn't teach we ought to seek religion. The Bible doesn't teach we ought to seek spirituality. The Bible doesn't teach we ought to seek enlightenment. The Bible teaches we need to “seek His face continually.” Amen!

The Bible commands us to ABIDE, which means “to continue dwelling, to remain” in Christ. This is NOT a plan of salvation. We are saved WITHOUT WORKS (Romans 4:5). Abiding in Christ is how we successfully live the Christian life and win souls to Jesus . . .

John 15:4-8, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”

Most religious work performed today is done in the flesh, without any dependence upon the Spirit of Christ. A perfect example is the ministry of Martin Luther King Jr., an unsaved Modernist who denied the deity of Jesus, the virgin birth and Christ's bodily resurrection. The “reverend” is sadly burning in Hell this moment, because he died in his sins without Christ as Savior. We know this from his own writings made public. All of King's religious' efforts were done in the flesh, without the Spirit of God, and no one was ever saved through his so-called ministry. King was unsaved himself, the blind leading the blind into damnation.

Truly abiding in Christ means abiding in the DOCTRINE OF CHRIST. 2nd John 1:9, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.” And this means that the Word of God must abide in us, because Jesus is the WORD OF GOD incarnate. John 1:1,14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” There can be no saving of souls apart from the Doctrine of Christ and the presence of the Spirit of Christ. Any so-called religious work or man-of-the-cloth that makes light of the Doctrine of Christ knows not the Spirit of Christ. Jesus said in John 5:39, SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!!!

As believers, may we seek Jesus' face continually, by searching the Scriptures, and spending time in prayer communing in fellowship with our wonderful God.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” —Romans 10:17
