This Too Shall Pass

By David J. Stewart

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.”John 16:20

One of the most important statements in the Bible is, “it came to pass,” found 387 times in the Old Testament and 65 times in the New Testament. Amen! Hard times do not last forever.

Jesus said in John 16:33, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Our Lord made clear that we would have TRIBULATION in this world. So many believers fail to comprehend this Biblical truth. We will have tribulation, problems, heartaches, temptations and burdens throughout this earthly life. It is to be expected. Thankfully, THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

John 1:12 calls every believer the son of God. God only had one Son without sin; but He never had a son without suffering. As the children of God, we will suffer in this world, because the world hates us (John 15:19).

But praise God . . . THIS TOO SHALL PASS! Jesus said in John 16:20, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” Amen! The sinful world may rejoice now in their wickedness, while we as Bible-obeying Christians suffer in sorrow, but the day will soon come when our SORROW SHALL BE TURNED INTO JOY! May I assure you my Christian friend, whatever your heartbreak may be, THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

Heaven is the believer's eternal home. We are PRESENTLY citizens of Heaven, Philippians 3:20, "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." The word "conversation" means "CITIZENSHIP!" Our citizenship is in Heaven. If you are saved, i.e., born-again, then you already posses eternal life. You are eternally alive NOW! Your soul and spirit will live forever in Christ Jesus. Bear this in mind when tribulation comes—you are known in Heaven! You are a citizen of Heaven! This world is not our home. We are only pilgrims passing through. This temporal world will soon pass way. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

Perhaps you're lonely and your loved ones have abandoned you. Perhaps your spouse has divorce you. perhaps your friends have deserted you. Perhaps you've recently lost a job or career. Perhaps you've suffered a major disappointment in your life's plans. Oh, listen my friend, THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

Things won't stay this way forever. Whether good or bad, THIS TOO SHALL PASS. This is why the Apostle Paul in 1st Corinthians 7:29-31 said, "But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away..." THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

Whatever your financial woes or dire situation may be, THIS TOO SHALL PASS! If loved one's pass away, Jesus Christ has promised in Matthew 28:20, "lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." When your children grow up and become independent and don't have time for you anymore as their parents, Jesus is still there. Loneliness won't last forever, THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

Life is short. We will all be in eternity before we know it. For the Christian believer, no matter how sorrowful and miserable you may be in this life, THIS TOO SHALL PASS. The Lord has promised us joy in Heaven.

Psalm 30:5, "For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
