TEEN DRINKING

By David J. Stewart

“I tell you that the curse of God Almighty is on the saloon.” —Billy Sunday

Teenage booze drinking and drunkenness are epidemic throughout America. It's as simple as the old childhood rhyme: “Money see, monkey hear, monkey do!” Parents can discourage their teens from drinking all they want, but it is useless if the parents are boozers. Kids are going to follow the example set forth in front of them. Television, Sports, Pop and Country music—all glamorize BOOZE...

The above picture speaks 1,000 words. The beer industry hypocritically tells teens not to drink alcohol until they are 21, while those same companies saturate American culture with booze, booze, booze! Consequently, underaged drinking is an epidemic problem in America!

American culture has been INDOCTRINATED by television and music to love booze. From Katy Perry's lyrics WE DROVE TO CALI AND GOT DRUNK, to Toby Keith's LET'S GET DRUNK AND BE SOMEBODY, American culture glorifies drinking alcohol. Television is saturated with people drinking beer, making beer-drinking look like such a wonderful activity. They never show you the hospitals, prisons, and morgues; but rather, the glamorous nightlife, lots of friends, and people having a fun time drinking booze. The Devil is a beautiful liar! All of Satan's apples have worms! Sin will always take you further than you planned to go, keep you longer than you intended to stay, and cost you more than you wanted to pay.

DYING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
(a 12 part video series exposing the evils of alcohol)

Adults can preach all they want about abstinence from drugs and beer, but teens are going to do as their parents do. Parents and family relatives who drink booze are setting bad examples for kids to follow. The biggest hypocrisy in the world are people who go around saying “say no to drugs,” while guzzling beer by the gallons.

To teens, the word "summer" means freedom. School is out and teens have more time with friends, often with reduced supervision. Unfortunately, summer is a time when teens are at high risk to start drinking – and when teen drunk-driving deaths are at their highest. The "We Don’t Serve Teens" campaign targets easy teen access to alcohol with the reminder, “Let's make it a safe summer. Don’t serve alcohol to teens.”

"We Don't Serve Teens" is a national campaign to prevent underage drinking brought to you by the Federal Trade Commission, the nation's consumer protection agency.

Drunkenness and the End of the Age

Social drinking is not the solution to the problem of alcoholism. Rather the social glass is the starting point of the majority of alcoholics.

If legal age barriers are eliminated in the sale of alcoholic beverages, and boys and girls are encouraged to drink in the homes, in society, and at church sponsored functions, what would be the result ? There would be increased slaughter on our highways due to drunken driving including that of teenage drivers. The national crime bill, already the highest on record, will be greatly increased.

As strong drink destroys the mind and body and removes all moral inhibitions, the nation would be further weakened to subversive forces boring from within. The rich owners of huge liquor monopolies and big investors will become richer still as families are reduced to abject poverty, and youth winds up in a gutter. Increased drunkenness is one of the given signs of the last days: "But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief... Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day be sober... For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ" (1st Thessalonians 5:4-9).

Those who are drunken in the night are not the children of light. Only the children of light are appointed to obtain salvation. Those who are of the night and darkness including drunkards, are appointed to wrath. What will drunkards do, when in the last great war of this age, the vintage is cut off, and there is no more wine? They will awake and weep and howl as forecast by the prophets. (Joel 1:5; Isaiah 24:1)

In view of His sudden return, Jesus specifically warned Christians, saying "Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares" (Luke21:34). But sad to say, many do not heed this warning. Likewise there are ministers today, who, like the householder in Jesus' parable, have said in their hearts, "My Lord delayeth His coming," and are now engaged in smiting their fellowservants and eating and drinking with the drunken. Upon such, the Lord will come in an hour when they think not, and shall appoint their portion with the hypocrites where "...there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 24.51).

LIQUID DEVIL

One man got drunk, beat his wife, took a knife and cut his son's head off in the kitchen. When the father sobered up the next day in a prison cell, he didn't believe what he was being charged with. He didn't even remember what he had done. Listen to the red-hot sermon for yourself, Alcohol: Public Enemy # 1.

There are many subtle and subliminal methods used to promote booze to people...

...the beer companies that aim their advertising mainly at poor members of minority groups use the cobra, bull, dragon, tiger, stallion and pit bull to convey their messages. “The idea is to sell wildness and power to the powerless.” (U. S. News & World Report, “Hostility among the icecubes,” July 15, 1991.)

Isn't that sad? Beer companies target the poor and minority groups, deceiving them into believing that drinking beer will empower them. In reality, drinking beer diminishes a person's ability to think clearly, and causes them to lose control with each drink. Beer does the exact opposite of what the beer companies allude, rendering the victim powerless.

Isaiah 24:9, “They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.”

A drunk driver crashed into a school bus filled with children.

"I am the sworn, eternal and uncompromising enemy of the liquor traffic. I have been, and will go on, fighting that damnable, dirty, rotten business with all the power at my command. I shall ask no quarter from that gang, and they shall get none from me."Billy Sunday (from The Curse of Liquor!)

"And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares." —Luke 21:34

So many people turn to booze to escape their problems. "Wine, women, and song" is the old saying. Today, the saying is "Sex, drugs, and Rock 'N' Roll." Well, God is against immoral sex, drug abuse and worldly music. God is against booze because of what it does to individuals, families, and societies. Alcohol has always been a menace, but much more so today because of modern breweries that make liquor readily available from coast-to-coast at nearly every chain store in America.

"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise...Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel." —Proverb 20:1, 17

This young woman didn't die in the above alcohol-related car accident, but probably wishes she had at the time. This is but one horrific tragedy, one of the millions of victims who DIDN'T die but will suffer for the rest of their lives because of beer. To repair Denise's lung and some of her other fractures, the doctors had to put her in a medically induced coma for five and a half weeks. They then put seven plates and 22 screws in her head and face, a process that took nearly 18 hours. Today Denise speaks to teens and others, still suffering, warning them of the dangers of alcohol.

Here's a Christian alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous...

Founded in 1948, Alcoholics Victorious support groups offer a safe environment where recovering people who recognize Jesus Christ as their "Higher Power" gather together and share their experience, strength and hope. AV meetings use both the 12 Steps and the Alcoholics Victorious Creed

There is Hope!
