Seek the Lord While He May Be Found
By David J. Stewart
Isaiah 55:6, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 9:27, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” There is a set, known time when each of us will breath our last breath on earth, which only God knows. Life is short. Proverb 27:1 tells us, “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” The Bible warns us in Isaiah 55:6 to “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found.” The word “seek” here comes from the Hebrew word darash, which means, “to search or pursue.” Hence, God wants us to search for Him as if looking for something valuable which we have lost. Certainly, there is no greater treasure in the world than the Word of God, and no One more precious than Jesus Christ, Who is the God-man. The Bible commands us to SEEK THE LORD, and then adds the all-important warning, WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND. God's window of mercy will not always be there. There is an expiration date, which is the day we die. Genesis 6:3, “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
In 2nd Chronicles 12:14 we read concerning king Rehoboam (Solomon's son), “And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.” It is a sin not to seek the Lord. Many people today look to the heathen world for spiritual advice. This is insane! Literally, millions of Americans, particularly women, turn to Oprah Winfrey and her New Age guests for answers concerning God and spirituality. No wonder America is in such a horrid mess today. Oprah Winfrey has publickly stated that “Jesus can't possibly be the only way” to Heaven. She is wrong according to the Scriptures! (See John 14:6; Acts 4:10-12; 2nd Thessalonians 1:8,9 in the King James Bible).
God is a loving, longsuffering and patient God, but the Bible says He will only wait so long. The invitation for salvation is open to all, even to the most vile of sinners. Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Revelation 22:17b, “And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” The Door is open my friend. John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” It's Jesus or Hell. There is NO other way to Heaven.
How sad it will be on Judgment Day, when millions of fearful lost souls stand before God in condemnation, realizing that they could have enjoyed eternal life freely, if they had only gotten saved “WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND” (Isaiah 55:6).
