Time Is Money
By David J. Stewart
Luke 16:8, “for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.”
Did you ever stop to realize that time is money? Ask any business man and he'll tell you it's true. Many churchgoers think they give much to God because they tithe 10% of their gross income. If you give God 10% of a 40-hour work week, then you've given God 4-hours of time. There are 168 hours in a week. If you divide 168 into 4, you'll get 2.38%. Hence, if you tithe 10% you've only given God a little more than two-percent of your life (your time). That's it! You've given God less than 3% of your life!!!
My point is simple... give God of your time to PREACH THE GOSPEL. Time spent in prayer and Bible study ought to give us a passion to go win souls to Christ. God pity these religious bums who study all day and pray all night and yet never share the gospel with one soul concerning Jesus Christ. 1st Corinthians 9:16, “yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”
I admire Christian men who diligently study the Bible and write several commentaries, but what does it all matter if none of it leads to the winning of souls? What good is a prayer warrior who never picks up the Sword of God's Word to win souls? What good is a deeper-life theologian who never preaches the gospel to the lost? Praise God, give us some more Evangelist Billy Sundays! Give us some more Pastor Dwight L. Moodys! Give us some more Dr. Jack Hyles! Give us some more men who BUILD!!! Bible studies don't get people saved. Prayer meetings are useless if we don't “GO YE into all the world...” (Matthew 28:19-20).
The early church took the truth of God's Word into the streets of the city. Everywhere that the early believers went in the Book of Acts, they caused either revival or riot. Compare this to all the dead churches today who never knock on the doors of the people in the local community. What a shame! Every church ought to map ought their local neighborhood and systematically share the gospel with everyone living there.
That's why God calls the feet of the soul-winner “beautiful” in Romans 10:15 instead of the lips, tongue or mouth. The most eloquent speech is worthless if a church has spiritual gout in their feet. What good is the gospel if we don't take it to the lost? The greatest wisdom is worthless if there are no feet to carry it to lost sinners. The Godhead said, who will “GO FOR US?” Who will go for us??? Isaiah 6:8, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah volunteered, saying, “Here am I; send me.” How 'bout you?
Are you willing to go for the Lord? The fields are ripe unto harvest. The world is literally dying for the answers. People are confused, very much so. I love Pastor Lee Roberson's sermon “ONE WAY HOME!” Oh, how the world needs the gospel. Are your feet beautiful? God is not looking for beautiful lips, tongues and mouths; but rather, beautiful feet willing to “GO FOR US” with the gospel.
Tithing is proper and right. Albeit, if you haven't given God of your time, then you are holding out on God. May we all give God of our time to PREACH THE GOSPEL.
“In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
