Adam and Eve
found out the hard way what JUST ONE SIN could do—it destroyed their lives!
Certainly, eating some forbidden fruit doesn't seem like a crime punishable by
death, but that's exactly the sentence they received from God for their
offense—THE DEATH PENALTY!
“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17).
Oh, the deceitfulness of sin! Listen to Eve's rationalization prior to committing her crime against God . . .
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat” (Genesis 3:6).
Is this not the way sin always is? Satan makes
sin look so innocent, of good intent, so pleasant to the eyes, so trifle and
human; yet, the consequences are severe and lasting, as Adam and Eve found
out quickly. Eve had developed an ILLUSION in her mind which blinded her
concerning the awfulness of sin. This is where America is at today. The very
nickname given to Las Vegas by it's Chamber of Commerce—SIN CITY—is utter
mockery against the God of the Bible.
Eve's 3 Excuses to Sin
From the evils of murderous abortion to vile homosexuality, Americans have excused their sins. In Genesis 3:6 Eve had at least 3 good reasons IN HER OWN MIND why she should sin:
- She saw that the tree was good for food.
- It was pleasant to the eyes.
- She had convinced herself that it was a tree to be desired to make one wise.
Eve became her own worst enemy. Sound familiar? If Eve had only purposed in her heart to obey the Word of God, she would have been ok.
Sadly, the Word of God, i.e., THE TRUTH, has few friends these days. Even amongst professed Christians, one excuse after another is sought for justifying demonic Rock 'n' Roll music in the church, going to Hollywood movies, not going soulwinning and for woman to dress immodestly in public. There is nothing more unbiblical than for a woman to wear pants. It is a woeful thing for Christian ladies to follow the world's sinful standards by wearing pants. It is very wrong. Just as Eve had 3 excuses for the sin she was about to commit, so do most women today make the same lame excuses for dressing immodestly and committing sin, and God hates it. The same goes for Rock 'n' Roll music in the church. It is wrong. As evidenced by Eve's disillusionment, anything can be justified.
Due to the evil influence of television, the United States has been DESENSITIZED to the awfulness of sin. Sexual immorality is joked about, glorified and touted on television. Romans 1:32 tells us, “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” To say that American television has become immoral, rotten and deplorable is a huge understatement. The American people, for the most part, are a sin-loving bunch. I say this with sadness for the way we mistreat God as a nation.
It took JUST ONE SIN to bring the death penalty upon all mankind (Romans 5:12). James 2:10 states that it takes JUST ONE SIN to make a person GUILTY in the eyes of God. According to Romans 3:23, “All have sinned.” Romans 6:23 declares, “For the wages of sin is death...” Humanity is in such a mess. If JUST ONE SIN was enough to plunge the world into darkness, just think about the trouble mankind is in today? Woe unto the world. Never underestimate the wickedness of JUST ONE SIN. It was one sin that cursed the human race.
