What Makes Your Beliefs Right Over Others?
by David J. Stewart
I have often been asked the question, “What makes your beliefs right over anybody else's?” That is a fair question, and a good one. What makes my beliefs right over anyone else's?
First of all, as a born-again Christian I am commanded to believe the Bible—the Words of God. I am as narrow-minded as the Bible. Everything that I believe is based upon the Scriptures, and not my own opinion.
The word “heresy” in the Bible simply means, “an opinion.” Many of the doctrines circulating in today's churches are merely opinions, not based upon the Word of God. In John 5:39 Jesus commanded His disciples to... SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!!! It is dangerous to form one's opinions apart from the Bible. People who express teachings not taught in the Scriptures are guilty of spreading heresy. There are sincere people in every church, who attempt to help others by offering unsought advice. Unfortunately, much of this advice is heresy, even damnable heresy.
Consider this important fact—Christianity recognizes the Bible as its only Authority; whereas all the so-called Christian religions in the world recognize ANOTHER AUTHORITY that supersedes the Bible in their faith...
Mormons elevate the writings of Joseph Smith above the Bible.
Seventh-day Adventists elevate the writings of prophetess Ellen G. White above the Bible.
Jehovah's Witnesses elevate the writings of Charles Taze Russell above the Bible.
Christian Science elevates the writings of Mary Baker Eddy above the Bible.
Roman Catholics elevate the traditions of the Vatican above the Bible.
Lutherans elevate the writings of Martin Luther above the Bible.
All of these mainstream false religions don't truly follow the Words of God; but rather, the words of men. You asked me how I know I'm right over others; we'll here's one of the main reasons—I believe the Bible, but they don't. Don't take my Word for it, study their beliefs for yourself and you will see that I speak the truth. Many of them will claim to believe the Bible, but their beliefs match up with the sources I mentioned (and not God's Word).
Manmade Roman Catholic Traditions
For example: Roman Catholics claim to believe the Bible, but listen to what Pope Benedict XVI said to a general audience on November 30, 2005, “Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith, says Benedict XVI.”[1] “...even if he lacks Biblical faith?” Hebrews 11:6 says “without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please him [God]” The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace are ye saved through faith.” My friend, you cannot please God nor be saved without faith in Jesus, the Christ, the only begotten Son of God.
Here's a lengthy list of manmade Roman Catholic traditions over the centuries. Mark 7:7-9, “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men... Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” These are incredible Scriptures spoken by the Lord Himself. Could the Lord be any plainer concerning the traditions of men that contradict the Bible? People openly, knowingly and willfully reject the Commandments of God to follow their own rules instead. It's been said, “Everyone has their own book that they live by.” This is true if you don't believe and obey the Bible. I choose to live “by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” as the Bible commands in Matthew 4:4 and Deuteronomy 8:3. You must “CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YE WILL SERVE” (Joshua 24:15).
Why People Don't Get Saved
I'm going to tell you something that very few people ever understand, that is, one's attitude toward God has everything to do with the rest of their life. If you place your faith in God, then everything else will follow. I don't care who you are, you cannot escape this fact of life. Your entire life is going to follow your faith, wherever you place it. Everyone has faith in something—whether in the God of the Bible or the unsaved heathen philosopher or one's self. I chose decades ago as a 13-year-old teenager to acknowledge and glorify God. I got saved by believing the Gospel. If I hadn't acknowledged the existence and presence of God, and my sinnership, then I wouldn't have received Jesus Christ. It's critically important that you open your heart to the truth my friend.
It's very interesting that 2nd Corinthians 4:4 says that Satan blinds the MIND of unbelievers to hinder them from believing the Gospel. The interesting thing is that 2nd Corinthians 3:13-16 says that the HEART is the real problem. You can argue religion all day, but no one will ever get saved until they “believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead” (Romans 10:9). The Bible says that there's a vail over the heart of the unbelieving...
2nd Corinthians 3:13-17, “And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
The Holy Spirit of God works in the heart of all men, convicting them of sin, righteousness and judgment so they'll come to Jesus Christ to be saved. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11). The bottom line is that people don't believe the Gospel because they don't want the Holt Spirit refuting them of sin, because they love their sins (John 3:20).
I actually had an honest man tell me that He didn't want to get saved because he was living in sin and wasn't ready to change. Even though I told him that he could still get saved without needing to cease from his sinful lifestyle, he still knew that the Holy Spirit would expect it from him as a new believer in Christ, and he absolutely didn't want that. Amazing!
Joshua took the mantle from Moses as leader over the Israelites in the Wilderness. The Jews had repeatedly moaned, whined and complained about everything. They even threatened God to go back to be slaves in Egypt where they had melons, garlic, fish, cucumbers, onions and leeks (Numbers 11:5). Isn't that horrible? God delivered them from hard bondage and slavery for 430 years in Egypt, delivering them from massacre at the Red Sea, providing for them in the desert Wilderness; yet they were ingrates and had no faith that God would provide for them. Hebrews 4:2 says they had no faith in the Gospel. Most went to Hell. God deliberately denied them the comforts of life to test them, but they got angry and refused to serve God unless He gave them gourmet dinners, shopping malls and the good life.
When the Lord did shower them with blessings, they became rot spoiled and forgot about Him. Deuteronomy 32:15, “But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.” Jeshurun, in the Hebrew Bible, is a poetic name for Israel. The Jews could not be pleased. When God was good to them, they rebelled and complained.
Eventually Joshua became tired of their wickedness and said to them...
Joshua 24:1415, “Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Will you serve the Lord? It is the good life in America that is leading tens-of-millions of souls into the Lake of Fire. America is an idolatrous nation. We worship music celebrities and Hollywood actors. We worship sex in this nation, evidenced by the preponderance of sexually suggestive content on television 24 hours a day. Love for sin hinders people from coming to the Lord (John 3:20).
Manmade Mormon Heresies
Here's another example of men placing their beliefs above the Bible. The Mormons quote the heresies of their founder Joseph Smith at MormonBeliefs.org...
Prophet Joseph F. Smith said, “I have no fears in my heart, or mind, that that which is called “Mormonism“— which is indeed the gospel of Jesus Christ—will not bear the scrutiny of science and the researches of the learned and literate into all truth. The gospel of Jesus is founded in truth. Every principle of it is susceptible of demonstration beyond any just reason for contradiction. The Lord is doing His work and will do it, and no power can stay it….We are willing to receive all truth…for truth will stand, truth will endure. The truth must be at the foundation of religion, or it is in vain and it will fail of its purpose. Truth entirely permeates this great work of the Lord that was established through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith, the prophet” (Joseph F. Smith, Gospel Doctrine, pg. 1).
As you just read in his writings, Joseph Smith defined the Gospel as Mormonism. That's a lie of Satan. In the preceding quote, Joseph Smith mentions the word “truth” seven times; yet he speaks total lies and deception for the Devil.
In sharp contrast the King James Bible defines the Gospel as the DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ...
1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
Clearly Joseph Smith doesn't agree with the Word of God. Mormons are following a corrupt man, headed straight for Hell.
The Truth Is Intolerable Of Falsehoods
Anybody can claim to speak the truth, but what is truth? Herod asked Jesus, “What is truth?” (John 18:38). Jesus called the Bible truth in John 17:17. Jesus proclaimed to be the way, truth and life in John 14:6. Although the perception of truth is highly subjective (modified by individual bias), the truth is always absolute. If three people each have drastically different opinions of what the truth is in a particular matter, everyone can't be correct.
For example: If one person thinks 1+1=2, but another thinks 1+1=3 and yet another thinks 1+1=4, everyone cannot be correct. The Bible teaches the truth. The question is do you believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word? Truth is intolerable to error. Today's churches are being led to share a common faith in God, but the Biblical Gospel is not commonly shared. It's called the “Ecumenical Movement.” Ecumenism is the doctrine of the ecumenical movement promoting cooperation and better understanding among different religious denominations; aimed at universal Christian unity. The Bible forbids Christians in 2nd Corinthians 6:14-17 from joining together with unbelievers and infidels.
Billy Graham yoked together with unbelieving Roman Catholics decades ago, committing spiritual adultery with the popes of Rome and sharing evangelistic crusades worldwide. When people respond to public invitations and walk forward, they are questioned and sent to Catholics if that is their faith. It's a crime against Heaven! Can you imagine—a person wanting to be saved and being sent to the biggest demonic cult in the world, being deceived again and again by the lies of Catholicism! Woe unto Billy Graham, the minister in the whorehouse!
Ecumenism wants to unite differing religious groups who think 1+1=3 (lies) and 1+1=4 (lies) with Christians who spiritually believe that 1+1=2 (the truth), honoring both groups alike as being truthful and of God. They say, let's all unite on the basis of God's love. Let's not further the hatred in the world by avoiding and denouncing one another.
Final Words
I know I am right because the Bible is right! It all boils down to whether or not you believe that the Bible are God's inspired Words. I do for a hundred reasons. The very manner in which the Bible came to mankind is evidence of it's divine nature. God used forty men over a 1,500 year span to pen the Bible, men who spoke different languages and came from different nations. Over 5,000 manuscripts (most partial, some complete) have been unearthed in the Middle East of the Books of the Bible, testifying to the divine origin of the Good Book.
And as I've laid out in this article, nearly every so-called Christian religion today has some external SOURCE of their beliefs other than the Bible; whereas in Biblical Christianity we only follow the Words of God in the Bible as our Final Authority. I'm as narrow-minded as the Bible! Amen!
If you are struggling with which religion, then research the root source of each religion's beliefs. Why do they believe as they do? Upon what AUTHORITY do they base their faith and beliefs? If you do this you will find that mortal MEN are behind nearly all the religions. I'd trust Baptist or non-denominational before any others, but even many of them are now corrupted. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has gone apostate in recent decades, supporting corrupt Bibles and lifting their ban against the homosexual “GAY DAY” at Disney World. Well God hasn't lifted His ban against Walt Disney nor Sodomy. God hasn't changed, men have! The Bible still says that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:24-32). Do you believe the Bible? I do, I do, I do!
If you want to follow men in some religion, good luck with that. If you don't want to follow Christ because of religion, be my quest, but Hell awaits you in eternity. Life is so short. You could be dead be sundown my friend. I hope and pray that you will believe the Gospel and be saved. Jesus died, was buried and raised up three days later (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). Receive the Gospel as payment for your sins and you will be saved immediately, securely and eternally. You need not wonder where you will spend eternity. Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again triumphant over death. Jesus is now seated in Heaven on the right-hand of the Father (Romans 8:34; Colossians 3:1-3), interceding as our High Priest (Hebrews 4:15-16). What a wonderful Savior!!!

Where The Burden Rests In Salvation
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." —John 3:16
