The Reason For So Many Problems In Churches

By David J. Stewart | February 2020

Jeremiah 3:15, “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

God willing, I will be 53 years old on March 5th. I have lived a bitter/sweet life on earth. Although I have joy, peace and a strong faith in the Lord, I am not happy being alone without a wife, feeling lost in life, and suffering in neck pain all the time. We are now living in the “perilous times” foretold of in 2nd Timothy 3:1-7, when people would become “lovers of their own selves.” Nehemiah said in Nehemiah 8:2b that “the joy of the LORD is your strength.” I enjoy knowing that God enjoys my fellowship with Him. I have joy bringing God joy, and God loves soulwinning! I have dedicated the rest of my life to soulwinning!!!

Having said that, I see so many unnecessary problems in churches today. I keep hearing about scuttlebutt, bickering, hatred, snubbing others and disgruntled church members leaving to go elsewhere in their frustration. Folks, THAT IS THE PASTOR'S FAULT, for not teaching his people better! That is the purpose for this article, to challenge Christian leaders to TEACH YOUR PEOPLE! Everything rises and falls on leadership. The pastor makes the church! You can visit 10 different churches, and each will reflect the attitude, spirituality and personality of the pastor.

One of my favorite preachers is Pastor Jeff Owens. I can't think of a better example of a leader who teaches his people. Also, Pastor Steven Anderson does a wonderful job of feeding his people (who are God's flock). God has entrusted each pastor to feed the flock of God. The people belong to God, not the pastor! 1st Peter 5:2, “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;” I love Dr. Owen's sermons, because he teaches the Lord's flock HOW TO get along. Here is a listing of several hundred sermons by Brother Owens, in which you will repeatedly see “HOW TO” (mentioned 26 times) in the message titles. Not surprisingly, I have heard Pastor Owens testify that they don't have a bunch of people problems in their church. You show me a church that has a bunch of backstabbing, bickering, fighting, gossip and lack of love, and I'll guarantee you that the pastor is incompetent, failing to walk with God as he should, not leading the people to love each other. Folks, the pastor is the key to any church.

I have mentioned this before umpteen times, and I intend to keep beating this kick drum—young men attend some so-called King James Bible inspiration denying “Bible college” (e.g., Bob Jones University, Hyles-Anderson College, Crown College, Pensacola Christian College, Moody Bible Institute, et cetera) and pay a bunch of money in exchange for a piece of paper called “a degree,” which somehow then makes them “qualified” to go lead a church, teaching people that we don't have a perfect, inspired, English Bible today! By denying the verbal inspiration (word for word) of the King James Bible, it opens the Pandora's Box that God's Word exists in multiple English Bible revisions, leaving scholars at the helm, whom churches rely upon to tell us THE TRUTH! Since scholars cannot agree on hardly anything, everyone is confused today. The horrible consequence is that well-meaning good men have sinfully usurped authority over the churches, instead of God's inspired Word. Since none of the Bible revisions agree with each other, religious people in the pews rely upon their pastors to tell them what's right and what's wrong. Effectively, they don't have God's Word anymore!

2nd Corinthians 12:20-21, “For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.”

Psalm 15:3, “He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.”
